mother and daughter
While sitting in Starbucks reading Readers’ Digest today, I overhead a conversation between a mother and a daughter.
Mother was holding a big bag (like 4′ tall) looks like a musical instrument or something. Daughter was in bad mood. Mother said softly, "don’t be angry, let’s order something to drink." Daugther said NO.
Mother said, "you see I was holding so many things and could take my wallet."
Daugther still angry.
Mother said, "you can pay first, you got pocket money."
Daugther was even angrier. Then said, "don’t mention the pocket money, so few that it wouldn’t enough for anything."
Mother silent.
Daughter continued, "XXX (a girl’s name) got $600 a month and still think it is nothing. I only got $200."
Mother silent. And looked a bit sad…
After a while, they left. Without ordering anything.

so..what is your view on that?

1. I suppose that $200 is something on top of what is necessary, ie, not for lunch nor transportation;
2. I assumed that musical instrument is what the mother paid for, for her to learn (I only learned recorder when I was in school…);
3. My mom won’t bring me to Starbucks;
She is still lucky isn’t she? What’s more, from her mom’s response, it seems to me that she was saying, “I’d have given you more if I could…”

I think nowadays the young are lacking what I called values.
First, the daughter didn’t know the value of money and
secondly, the value of honoring the mother. I remember I had not gotten angry with my parents for not buying things I wanted. I only felt sad in my heart and I wasn’t vocal about my disappointment. Was I silly? I should have insisted my parents to buy then huh? hahaha ….and Fun, you are right, we were happy then with the little we had compared to now.

When I was teen, I had to earn $ for my school fees…and I would say “thx” to my parents when they gave me a cent as pocket $. How much $ I have is what the effort I paid for, that’s what I learn in my life.
It’s really hard to imagin how’s our next generation will become as what the teens behaved like that girl………….(sighing!)

Yes I think this generation has gotten far too much. Far too much that they have taken everything for granted.
