silly us…

Original plan was to see the firework show for French Cultural Year in HK.

We once thought that the show would have been cancelled because of the bad weather.  But since we (mainly myself) had nothing better to do in the evening, we kept dining in the Harbour City.

We have chosen a resturant (actually 2 restaurants!!) which has (have) a good seaview.  It was until like 9pm - by the time we were sitting at the outside terrace of El Cid - was wondering if the show would go on.  We suddenly saw some "smoke" on the sky.  Started to realised that the "sea" El Cid is facing is not the Victoria Harbour!

What a pity!

after typhoon

Sunday, September 25th, 2005

26 September, rainy day.

We had typhoon for the whole weekend.  I don’t understand why a typhoon always comes on weekend and leaves before a working day.  Perhaps it needs to go back to work.  (silly joke.)

Usually it takes 45 minutes for me to drive from home to office in the morning.  Today it took 75 minutes.  The additional 30 minutes was mainly due to a number of traffic accidents on my way to office.

2. another one also in Lung Cheung Road but earlier in the morning although it didn’t affect the traffic at the time when I went to work : http://hk.news.yahoo.com/050926/12/1h042.html

Actually there was another smaller accident near Sai Kung which caused another congestion.

I found that the frequency of traffic accident in Lung Cheung Road is almost like twice every week.  Don’t know if the government should do something (besides all those trips to China).

celebrity

A friend told me that he was upset because he read an interview on magazine, which was about his secondary schoolmate.  The person he mentioned is now one of the "kings of tutorial" who earns about a million dollars every month.  (note: he started the private education business few years ago helping students to prepare for public exams).

This person used to sit besides my friend when they were both in secondary school and played snookers together after school. My friend wondered why one has become so successful at earlty thirtieth while the other is just doing so-so.

Another friend of mine, who used to be in the same class as a female artist.  My friend is now in an indi-band and is a "part-time" artist I would say.  She said the same thing to me earlier, "she sits besides me in school… look she is so popular now…" From my point of view, my friend sings better than this artist.  My friend is tall and slim and pretty.  Yet she is nameless.

Fortunately I don’t have any "classmate" who has become a celebrity in any form (good and bad…) and I don’t need to say this bitterly.  I would be more jealous than they did if I were them, to be honest.  We like comparing.  We like comparing to those who are with similar background with us.  We like comparing the apparent success with others.  We like hating ourselves.

Think this way.  The person you compare with might not have a happy relationship as you do now.  They might not have the freedom to do whatever they like on street.   They have to worry about people cheating them.  They might not be as healthy as you.

More importantly, if there were 40 persons in the class, perhaps 38 of them are not as good as you do now.

recent news

Sunday, September 4th, 2005

Here, we are all busy reading the newspapers these days.

The 7-year-old boy case (see my previous blog on "innocent boy") is the one always on the A-1 of major local Chinese papers.  Everybody is discussing the motive of his step-mother, etc etc.

Rice giveaway is another big topic.

The Kissel case attracts more spotlight from SCMP than from local papers.

Disney is a bit out but still on the papers everyday.

I barely have a chance to have a closer look at "Katrina"… all these pictures remind me of the tsunami last Christmas…

Really can’t imagine this could have happened to the world leader… When we were happily celebrating the Christmas last year, the news of the tsunami rang a bell to everyone of us.  Everybody (from all over the world) rushed to help those people.  I still remember the scene of all banks crowded with people who wanted to donate.  We were worrying how those poor countries could be re-built after the disaster.

Eight months later, the similar pictures sent from the news wires.  Houses were destroyed.  Thousands have been killed.  People crying for help.  People lost contacts with friends and families.  Short of food and water. … …

Always the first one to stand out to support other nations when they need help.  Always the first one to comment and judge when there is dispute in other nations.  Now, in the Southern part of this country, people were yelling helplessly and hopelessly, saying that their country is ignoring them.  Insufficient rescue.

No one wants to see this, but at least one thing is clear - the nature is the fairest thing in the world.  Natural disaster could happen to everyone, no matter how rich or how poor you are.
